My mom is on a diet and replaced all her sugar with Erythritol. I say it's unsafe and she disagrees. Is Erythritol harmful?

This is a difficult question as there have been many studies going both ways. Erythitrol has been linked to cancer but only in extreme quantities. In addition, Erythritol has been know to trick the body into thinking it needs more sugar that it actually does. This ultimately results in the consumer eating more sugars/calories than normal which may not be healthy.
