Was running into some issues with getting .htaccess file updates to take effect when working on a different site hosted on the same server as 256 Kilobytes.

While Guy 1 on StackOverflow points out that "Changes to .htaccess are immediate and do not require a restart," it seems that Guy 2 is correct that "apparently, some servers only check .htaccess files periodically. I've found this to be the case w/ our AWS host."

DreamHost seems to also do this. If you're using a VPS, you can force a reload by restarting the server.

Also, for reasons that should be obvious if you read the above text, there will be brief intermittent downtime for the next hour or so, probably.
