I think my hard drive is in need of a look over for viruses and such. I haven't done one in a while. How long does it typically take to do a scan and repair for my hard drive?

Depends on how clean the disk in question is. By clean I don't mean how much space is taken up by data. Some huge zip files or ISO files will take much longer to be scanned. An extremely large number of very small files can also sometimes take up a lot of time.

Also, fragmentation is a nightmare. You must have seen and probably also used the Windows Disk Defragmenter. What happens is that drives (especially the C drive) have a lot of fragmentation. Many files can be stored sequentially somewhere else to save up space on the memory (register). The Defragmenter arranges them in a proper way and settles the dust, basically. This fragmentation happens most in the C drive because program installs and uninstalls leave a lot of empty memory locations.

So, if you haven't defragmented your C drive in a long while, scanning and repairing it can take up a lot of time. Other drives that include files of sizeable portions don't have that much fragmentation.

Some design is good, some design is bad, and yet some design is just full retard Comic Sans with a rainbow gradient on it.
