I recently tried sending a package to one of my relatives for his birthday because I was trying to be a good Aunt. I did certified mail for USPS with a tracking label and everything. Unfortunately when I tracked the package it said that it was "receptacle blocked." Does anyone know what this means?

Receptacle blocked means the mailbox was inaccessible or that there was nowhere to post the package and that the letterbox was blocked. Which also meant the delivery person couldn't leave a failed delivery notice behind or he didn't leave the item because it was not on the vehicle or was lost in transit.

Make sure to check;

  1. Whether your mailbox was accessible to the carrier?
  2. Any vehicle or other obstacle blocking it?
  3. Call post office to find out why no delivery and tell them to re-deliver mail.

It most likely means they couldn't get to the Mail Box to drop off the letter. Someone may have parked/blocked the front of the mail box or there was no way to reach the mail box. Most likely they will try to deliver the next day.
