I need to be able to store files somewhere other than on my hard drive or on the cloud. I have purchased a WD My Book in order to use it to store important files, but I am not sure how to operate it once I have the files transferred. How do I open the WD My Book?

Western Digital devices always come with their own software. So, if you haven't got a copy of the My Book software along with the product itself, then make sure you download a copy from the official website at wd.com.

The My Book is a very powerful backup tool for storing a large amount of digital content.

The real question is, how do you open My Book "physically"? The product has no screws. No fasteners. No push-buttons. There's a full guide on how to remove the case of the Western Digital My Book, the latest model. You can check that guide on Carlton Bale's websites here.
