I got an error message in git that said, "Please commit your changes or stash them before you merge." How do I fix this and move on with my git update?

This error is actually a good part of Git. It is thrown up because you cannot merge with local modifications. It's a kind of protection from losing changes, which might be important more often than not.

What you need to do is issue the following command:

git commit -m "Message"

This is committing. And surely, you can also stash it as the error itself says.

git stash

Then merge. And now, pull the stash:

git stash pop

In case the local modifications aren't really important, you can simply ignore them. This will require a hard reset.

git reset --hard

Some design is good, some design is bad, and yet some design is just full retard Comic Sans with a rainbow gradient on it.
