• Ubuntu, Mint
  • Well supported, basically do what you want out of the box. There's also Lubuntu, which is basically Ubuntu but lighterweight, which can be good if you want to "clean up" an older computer meaning "make it faster/less bloated." 
• Debian, Fedora
  • Also well supported and widely used. Communities and distributions lean more toward the "enthusiast" side than Ubuntu/Mint.
• Arch, Gentoo
  • Live free or try hard. Designed to be highly customizable. The Arch wiki and community are known for being high quality.
